What's Involved

This qualification is delivered at our Quarles Campus in Harold Hill. It is fully expected that all learners that begin their learning at this campus will complete their learning at this campus, regardless of the duration of the programme.

This public service course provides a great opportunity for learners to develop some of the necessary skills required to pursue a career in various roles within the police, fire services, ambulance and armed forces. You will study and gain skills in teamwork, citizenship, leadership and navigation. The majority of the course is classroom based with some practical and outdoor activities.

Entry Requirements

You will need 4 GCSEs with at least 2 at grade D and 2 at grade E. These must include English language and maths. Other qualifications that can be used are relevant Level 1 qualifications. You will also need to be successful at an interview and complete our induction programme.

Where will it take me?

Successful learners who meet all the college’s progression criteria can apply for a Level 3 programme, or depending on their age and the service apply for a job.

Course Assessment Method

You will have 2 externally set assessments for 2 of your units. The rest of the units will be assessed internally by your tutors and this could be by essays, reports, posters, practical assessments or role plays. All assessments are marked against criteria set by the awarding body, BTEC, and you can achieve Pass, Merit or Distinction grades for individual units and then ultimately, for your whole course.
