This is a one year programme which aims to develop your skills and understanding of the industry as you build a firm foundation for progression onto University.

You will participate in interactive lectures, seminars and debates both with your class and with guest speakers. These will cover a range of topics designed to enhance your knowledge and understanding of the following key areas within counselling, social care and related professions.

  • Counselling skills
  • Making sense of counselling intervention
  • The role of the counsellor
  • Ethical responsibilities and framework
  • Counselling values
  • Counselling in a diverse society
  • Meeting the needs of different client groups and placement providers
  • Research skills

You will also work on your academic, study, literacy and examination skills alongside preparation for university.

The course is based on an integrative (psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural, humanistic) model, built upon Clarkson’s therapeutic relationship model. The course will cover theory, skills, practice and personal development with the emphasis on putting theory into practice.

This course is available as full-time only attendance which involves two days attendance at college.
