You will have an interest in Performing Arts and already have two GCSEs at Grade D and/or above. This course may be the first step in achieving your ambition of working in the entertainment industry.

You will study specialist units in drama or dance. Your chosen pathway will focus on the subject area that you are interested in, for example; acting or dance techniques, musical theatre techniques, physical theatre. This course culminates in a live performance towards the end of the year long course.

This course is the equivalent to 4 GCSEs.

You will study to achieve a total of 90 credits from units that have been handpicked by the team to provide you with best opportunity to achieve a broad understanding of the industry and the core techniques and skills for performers.

Development of your communication and team working skills is greatly encouraged and it will be incorporated into your lessons throughout the course.

You will study the following dance techniques:

  • Classical Ballet

  • Contemporary Dance

  • Tap

  • Jazz

  • Urban dance

  • Choreography

Throughout the course you will also cover the following topics:

  • Historical context in performance

  • Performing arts business

  • Rehearsing and performance work

If you have not yet achieved a C Grade (or above) in GCSE English and Maths, you will also be required to retake the GCSE if you have achieved a D grade. If you achieved less than a D grade you will attend Functional Skills sessions.

You will study numerous acting techniques including:

  • Principles of Acting

  • Radio Acting

  • Devising Plays

  • Voice for the Actor

  • Developing Movement Skills

Throughout the course you will also cover the following topics:

  • Performing arts business

  • Rehearsing and performance work

If you have not yet achieved a C Grade (or above) in GCSE English and Maths, you will also be required to retake the GCSE if you have achieved a D grade. If you achieved less than a D grade you will attend Functional Skills sessions.

If you have an interest in Performing Arts and wish to study this further then this course is suitable for you. This highly practical qualification is aimed at students hoping for a career in Performing Arts and has several pathways: Dance, Acting and Musical Theatre. This qualification is equivalent to 1.5 A Levels.

Note: Students enrolling for the Level 3 Diploma progress to the full Extended Diploma after one year, subject to completing the coursework satisfactorily.

This course is designed to develop your skills, knowledge and understanding in your chosen specialism. The relevant specialist units might include:

Dance: ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and urban techniques, choreography, performance and anatomy for dance.
Acting: Acting techniques, classical and contemporary text, movement studies, radio acting, voice, theatre in education and performance.
Musical Theatre: Dance techniques (ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary and urban), acting techniques, voice, singing.
Technical Theatre: Lighting, sound, prop making, events management, production management, stage management.

This course follows on from the 90 Credit Diploma to give you a total of 180 credits that allow you to broaden your knowledge of dance and the core techniques and skills for performers. Development of your communication and team working skills is greatly encouraged and it will be incorporated into your lessons throughout the course. You will attend performance workshops and develop an understanding of the following:

  • Dance Performance
  • Classical Ballet
  • Contemporary Dance
  • Tap
  • Jazz
  • Urban dance
  • Choreography
